SPECIAL DRIVING NOTE FOR 2016 STAR PARTY
The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) is advising area drivers that Route 44 between the village of Oleona and Lycoming County line will be closed Tuesday, July 5, as work resumes to rehabilitate more than 50 miles of weight restricted roadway on Routes 44 and 144 in Potter County. A detour using Routes 220, 120, and 144 will be in place.
Beginning Monday, August 22, the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) will be working to repair a bridge in West Branch Township and a detour will be in place. The bridge is located on Route 2002 about 2 miles northeast of the village of Cherry Springs. Repairing the bridge will extend its useful life and allow PennDOT to remove it from Potter County’s structurally deficient list.
Cherry Springs State Park is located on Pennsylvania Route 44 approximately 10 miles southeast of Coudersport in North Central Pennsylvania. As you may expect in a place that is not troubled by light pollution, the Cherry Springs site is rather remote. The local roads, though well maintained, are not Interstate Highways. There are many twists and turns, so please remember this when you plan your driving time.
There are several different routes that you can take when driving to Cherry Springs. This area is criss-crossed with roads that interconnect. So instead of giving a confusing array of route numbers, we will give directions that have a minimum of route changes.
